Dr. Elizabeth Clement, MD, MSc, FRCSC

Dr. Elizabeth Clement in a specialist in colon and rectal surgery at St. Paul’s Hospital and a clinical instructor with the University of British Columbia. She recently finished the colorectal surgery fellowship program at St. Paul’s Hospital and is thrilled to be joining the group for the next year. 

Education

Dr. Clement grew up in rural Alberta, and completed a Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree in Neuroscience at the University of Alberta. She received her medical degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and then completed her residency in general surgery at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. 

Interests

Within the field of colorectal surgery, Dr. Clement is interested in colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and anorectal conditions. She is trained in laparoscopic/minimally invasive surgery, pelvic pouch construction and colonoscopy.

Dr. Clement’s academic focus is on communication, and she recently completed the Media and Medicine course from Harvard University. Her research includes novel methods to explain operative and perioperative processes to patients. She is the recipient of the Canadian Society of Colorectal Surgeon’s grant, which is helping to fund a project on the use of a graphic narrative – also known as a comic – to help consent patients for surgery.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Clement enjoys running along the seawall and spending time with her husband and son.
